POLICE SHUT DOWN BUDGET PROTEST… DEMONSTRATE 5-7.30PM!

April 22, 2009 by theircrisisnotours

The police have refused to authorise our planned demonstration on Whitehall at 11.30am and have made clear that, if it takes place, the organiser will be liable to arrest and imprisonment for up to a year.

To avoid any police action against protesters turning up, we have been forced to cancel this demonstration.

Our protest from 5pm-7.30pm outside the Treasury (1 Horse Guards Road, London SW1A 2HQ – click link for map) will still take place. Please spread the word and attend the protest to demand a People’s Bailout – and defy police moves against demonstrations.

We will also be going ahead with our 7.30pm Question Time event with John McDonnell MP, economist Graham Turner and others in Committee Room 10, House of Commons. Make sure you come along and exercise your right to protest.

They’ve bailed out the bankers who started the crisis – but millions of working people across the country are paying with their jobs, pay packets and their homes.

On Wednesday 22nd April, you will finally have your chance to demand ask the Government: ‘Where’s Our Bailout?’. As the Chancellor delivers the Government’s annual Budget, come and protest in front of the world’s cameras.

The campaign is supporting the demands of the People’s Charter. Download the Day of Action flyer here and send it out far and wide! Email o.p.jones AT gmail.com if you’d like some sent to you to distribute.

Below is what we’ve got planned:

11.30am: Protest with placards listing demands on Whitehall along the route the Chancellor will take from No. 11 Downing Street to address Parliament

5pm: Protest outside the Treasury near Whitehall on 1 Horse Guards Road , London SW1A 2HQ.

Angry that millions of people face losing their jobs and their homes?

Disgusted that the bankers who plunged us into this crisis have been bailed out with billions of pounds of our money?

Sickened that these bankers are awarding themselves huge bonuses while the economy continues to collapse because of their greed?

Then join us on Wednesday 22nd April to demand: ‘Where’s Our Bailout?’ On this day, the Government will unveil its Budget. Let’s make sure that the voice of the people is heard.

Their Crisis Not Ours! has been set up by the Labour Representation Committee, which brings together socialists and trade unionists both inside and outside the Labour Party and has the support of six national unions and dozens of organisations across the country.

We will be holding events across the country and will post details as soon as possible.

In London we plan the following actions:

11.30am: Line the route on Whitehall where the Chancellor will go from No. 11 Downing Street to address Parliament

5pm: Protest outside the Treasury

7.30pm: We will hold a Question Time event at a venue soon to be confirmed which will be chaired by John McDonnell MP and be addressed by a range of experts, activists and high-profile figures who will answer your questions as to how we got into this mess.
